Select a mentor that best suits the business idea or business issue they are seeking mentoring for.
Make appointments as far in advance as possible and be on time for the appointment.
Show respect for the mentors allotted time.
Come prepared to present their idea or business issue in a concise professional manner.
Perform as much research as possible in advance of their mentoring session to avoid asking questions that can be easily answered by performing a simple internet search.
Dress in appropriate attire.
Recognize that a mentor at his or her discretion may be willing to introduce them to potential funding opportunities. It is inappropriate for them to solicit individual investment funds from a mentor.
Recognize and agree that the mentors are offering their time, experience, and advice, on a strictly voluntary basis. It is their sole discretion to use or not to use the advice given and as such the mentors have no liability and are held harmless for your ultimate business decisions.
Recognize that it is a good practice to express their appreciation to the mentor with a follow-up thank you note or email.
